Loch Ard Gorge is a narrow sea inlet on the Port Campbell coast of Victoria, formed where the Southern Ocean has carved through limestone cliffs to create a sheltered sandy beach. The gorge is named for the iron-hulled clipper ship Loch Ard, which wrecked on the coast in June 1878 with the loss of 52 lives, leaving only two survivors. Adjacent rock formations including the Razorback, the Island Arch, and the Thunder Cave can be explored on a network of cliff-edge paths above the Southern Ocean.
