Moravian Church Settlements

The Moravian Church laid out its congregational settlements to a common ideal: modest Baroque houses around a central church square, communal choir houses for unmarried members, and a burial ground of plain, equal gravestones known as God's Acre. Christiansfeld in southern Denmark, founded in 1773, entered the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015; the listing was later expanded to embrace Herrnhut in Germany, Gracehill in Northern Ireland and Bethlehem in the United States, each still home to an active congregation.
