Rottnest Island lies 18 kilometres off the coast of Fremantle in the Indian Ocean, a low limestone island ringed by bays of turquoise water and white coral sand. The island is car-free and traversed primarily by bicycle along sealed paths connecting more than 60 beaches and coves. It is home to the quokka, a small wallaby endemic to the southwest of Western Australia and the island, making it a significant wildlife destination.
