Batad is a remote Ifugao village in the Cordillera mountains accessible from Banaue by jeepney and a 45-minute hike over a mountain ridge, its amphitheatre-shaped ring of rice terraces considered the finest single example of traditional Ifugao terrace irrigation in the Philippines. The curved walls of the Batad amphitheatre enclose the village centre and descend to a narrow river valley, forming a panoramic composition unique in the World Heritage site. Tappiya Falls, a 30-metre waterfall below the terrace level, requires a steep descent through the working agricultural terraces.
