The most remote and least developed of Bali's three northern crater lakes, Lake Tamblingan lies within a dense montane forest at 1,100 meters in the Bedugul highlands. The lake and surrounding forest are considered sacred and undeveloped for tourism infrastructure, with access via a short walk through old-growth jungle from Munduk or Gobleg villages. Dugout canoe crossings from the lakeside shrine at Pura Gubug are part of trekking routes that link Tamblingan with the adjacent Lake Buyan.
