A remote traditional village of the Manggarai people nestled in the mountains of central Flores at approximately 1,100 meters elevation, Wae Rebo is known for its seven conical mbaru niang communal houses, the tallest of which stands over 15 meters. The journey to the village requires a several-hour hike through cloud forest, often through morning mist, and the arrival to the elevated clearing reveals one of Indonesia's most photogenic indigenous architectural settings. The village community practices ceremonial rice cultivation and weaving traditions maintained across generations.
