A lowland rainforest reserve in southeastern Sumatra, Way Kambas National Park is one of the most important protected areas for Sumatran elephants and the critically endangered Sumatran rhinoceros. The park's Elephant Conservation Centre offers opportunities to observe elephants in a managed rehabilitation setting, and early morning boat trips along the Way Kanan River provide sightings of water monitors, kingfishers, and occasionally Malayan tapirs. The park's position in Lampung Province makes it one of the more accessible Sumatran wildlife parks from Java.
