The largest of the three Gili Islands off northwestern Lombok, Gili Trawangan is a flat coral island ringed by white-sand beaches and accessible only by boat from Lombok or Bali. The island prohibits motor vehicles, giving it an unhurried character despite being the most developed of the Gilis. Sea turtle populations are reliably encountered on snorkel and dive sites immediately offshore, and the west-facing beach is a popular sunset gathering point.
