A forest reserve and temple complex within central Ubud, the Monkey Forest protects several hectares of dense jungle inhabited by over 700 long-tailed macaques. Three Hindu temples dating to the 14th century are integrated into the forested grounds, their moss-covered stone carvings partially obscured by tropical vegetation. The sanctuary functions as both an active place of worship and a nature reserve, managed in accordance with traditional Balinese forest stewardship principles.
