Trogir has kept its shape for more than two thousand years. The grid of this small island city goes back to Hellenistic Greek settlers, and successive rulers enriched it with fortifications, churches and palaces. Romanesque churches stand beside the elegant Renaissance and Baroque buildings of the Venetian centuries, a rare unbroken record of urban continuity. UNESCO inscribed the historic city of Trogir in 1997.
