A scenic area within the Tràng An Landscape Complex in Ninh Bình Province, Tam Cốc is traversed by a slow river winding between flooded rice paddies and vertical limestone karst pillars. Rowing boats carry visitors through three natural cave tunnels — Hang Ca, Hang Giữa, and Hang Cuối — each formed where the river passes beneath a limestone ridge. The nearby Bích Động pagoda complex is built directly into a limestone cliff face, with temple chambers occupying cavern alcoves at different elevations.
