Sampans drift between karst towers at Trang An, where flooded valleys wind beneath near-vertical limestone cliffs at the southern edge of the Red River Delta. Caves here hold traces of more than 30,000 years of human presence, from hunter-gatherers weathering post-glacial sea rise to the founders of Hoa Lu, Vietnam's capital in the 10th and 11th centuries. Temples, pagodas and rice paddies complete the scene. UNESCO inscribed this Mixed site in 2014.
