The largest island in Vietnam, situated in the Gulf of Thailand near the Cambodian coast, Phú Quốc is fringed with white-sand beaches and backed by forest within a national park that covers more than half the island's area. Long Beach (Bãi Trường) on the west coast faces the sunset and is the most developed stretch, while the northern and eastern shores retain a quieter, more natural character. The island is also a production centre for fish sauce and black pepper cultivated in inland plantations.
