Phuket is Thailand's largest island, connected to the mainland by a causeway and served by an international airport, making it the most accessible Andaman Sea destination. The western coast faces the open sea and holds the island's best-known beaches — Patong, Karon, and Kata — while the northern tip features the quieter landscapes of Sirinat National Park. Phuket Town, in the southeast, preserves a district of Sino-Portuguese shophouses dating to the nineteenth-century tin-mining era. The island is a logistical hub for day trips to Phang Nga Bay and the Phi Phi Islands.
