The reconstructed palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom, situated on a hill overlooking Naha, whose distinctive red lacquered architecture reflects a fusion of Chinese and Japanese castle-building traditions that developed independently within the Ryukyu archipelago. Originally built in the fourteenth century and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the main Seiden hall burned in 2019 and is currently undergoing phased reconstruction with the site remaining partially open. The surrounding stone-paved walkways, guardian lion gates, and Enkaku-ji temple ruins outline the historic palace precinct.
