A ski resort area on the southern flank of Mount Yotei in southwestern Hokkaido, internationally recognized for its exceptionally light powder snow produced by cold air crossing the Sea of Japan and depositing moisture on the volcanic terrain. The interconnected Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village, and Annupuri resorts form the largest night-skiing operation in Japan. Summer months bring mountain biking, rafting, and agricultural tourism to the Niseko farmlands.
