Japan's highest peak at 3,776 meters, a nearly symmetrical stratovolcano on Honshu's central island recognized as both a sacred site and an internationally iconic landscape subject. The climbing season runs from July through early September, with four official trails ascending from different compass points. From a distance, the mountain is most dramatically photographed at dawn from the Fuji Five Lakes region or the Hakone highlands.
