Thorong La is a high mountain pass at 5,416 metres connecting the Manang Valley to Muktinath on the Annapurna Circuit trek. The crossing requires an early pre-dawn start from High Camp to avoid afternoon winds, and on clear mornings offers expansive views across the Tibetan plateau to the north and the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges to the south. Prayer flags strung across the pass summit mark the highest point of the circuit and provide a striking photographic foreground against snow-streaked peaks.
