Kovalam is a small coastal town south of Thiruvananthapuram consisting of three adjacent crescent-shaped beaches separated by rocky headlands. Lighthouse Beach, named for the working lighthouse at its southern end, is the longest and most frequented, while the more sheltered Hawa Beach to the north sees calmer surf conditions. The rocky shoreline between beaches provides textured foreground for photography at the golden hours.
