Fort Kochi is a peninsula district of Kochi city that preserves an unusually layered architectural heritage — Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial buildings stand alongside Jewish synagogues, Chinese fishing nets, and centuries-old mosques. The Chinese fishing nets along the waterfront, cantilevered wooden frames lowered into the sea at dusk, are among Kerala's most photographed subjects. The neighbourhood hosts a vibrant contemporary arts scene centred on the biennial Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
