Kumbhalgarh is a fifteenth-century Mewar fortification in the Aravalli Hills about 82 kilometres north of Udaipur, encircled by a wall that extends for 36 kilometres — the longest continuous wall in Asia after the Great Wall of China. The fort served as the main refuge of Mewar rulers during times of attack and contains over 360 Hindu and Jain temples within its perimeter. The ramparts afford views into both the Marwar desert to the west and the wooded Aravalli valleys to the east.
