Pushkar is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage town built around a small lake in the Aravalli Hills, one of only a handful of sites in India with a temple dedicated to Brahma. Its 52 ghats descend to the holy lake, and the narrow lanes of the old town are lined with temples, whitewashed dharamshalas, and bazaars selling flowers and marigold offerings. The town is internationally known for the Pushkar Camel Fair held in October or November, which draws livestock traders and travellers to a vast temporary encampment on the desert plain outside the town.
