Amber Fort, also known as Amer Fort, is the principal palace fortress of the Kachhwaha Rajput rulers, built on a ridge above the Maota Lake about 11 kilometres north of Jaipur. The fort combines Rajput and Mughal architectural sensibilities across a series of four courtyards, with the jewel-encrusted Sheesh Mahal — Hall of Mirrors — as its most celebrated interior. The stepped fortification walls extending along the ridgeline on either side resemble the Great Wall, and the combination of fort, lake, and hills is most dramatic in morning light.
