The largest national park on Mauritius encompasses the island's remaining native forest, covering roughly 6,574 hectares of the southwestern highlands. The park protects the Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon, and echo parakeet — all species brought back from near-extinction through intensive conservation programmes. Trails range from short interpretive walks to full-day crossings of the island's forested spine, passing waterfalls and panoramic viewpoints.
