A small coastal town at the mouth of the Morondava River on Madagascar's western seaboard, Morondava serves as the gateway to the Avenue of the Baobabs and Kirindy Forest. The town's beach is wide and quiet, backed by fishing pirogues and wooden boat-builders' yards. The surrounding Menabe region is one of the last strongholds of the giant baobabs native to Madagascar's dry west coast.
