Victoria Falls — known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, 'the smoke that thunders', in the Kololo language — spans 1,708 metres of the Zambezi River's width and plunges up to 108 metres, forming the largest curtain of falling water on earth. The spray from the falls is visible up to 50 kilometres away, and the rainforest created by the perpetual mist nurtures vegetation that contrasts with the surrounding dry woodland. The bridge below the falls linking Zimbabwe and Zambia is a base for bungee jumping above the gorge.
