Spitzkoppe is a cluster of bald granite inselbergs rising abruptly from the surrounding Namib plains, the tallest peak reaching 1,784 metres. Often called the 'Matterhorn of Namibia', its distinctive silhouette is a landmark visible from great distances across the flat gravel desert. The boulders around its base contain well-preserved San rock engravings and paintings, and the camp sites among the rocks offer some of the finest night-sky photography in southern Africa.
