Hermanus on Walker Bay is regarded as one of the finest land-based whale-watching sites on earth, with southern right whales entering the bay from July to December to calve in its protected waters. A clifftop path along the town's seaward edge provides elevated vantage points above the bay. The town also serves as a base for shark-cage diving operations in the cold Benguela waters offshore.
