The Kondoa Irangi rock paintings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising over 150 sites in the Masai escarpment, sheltering San hunter-gatherer paintings estimated to span thousands of years in an unbroken artistic tradition. The ochre, white, and black figures depict humans in dance and ritual postures, animals, and abstract patterns that remain central to the spiritual practices of local communities. The sites are set among dramatic granite boulders in miombo woodland, reached by rough tracks from the town of Kondoa.
