Ruaha is Tanzania's largest national park by area and remains among its least visited, offering a wilderness experience of considerable depth along the Great Ruaha River. Elephant populations here recovered substantially after anti-poaching measures were intensified, and the park sustains large prides of lion and a healthy population of African wild dogs. The landscape of granite kopjes, baobab savanna, and riparian forest is visually distinct from northern Tanzania parks.
