Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserve stretches across 1,500 square kilometres of open savanna in the southwestern Rift Valley, forming an ecosystem continuous with the Serengeti. The annual wildebeest migration, in which over a million animals cross the Mara River between July and October, draws photographers for dramatic river-crossing sequences. Lions, cheetahs, and elephants are resident year-round among the golden grasslands and acacia woodlands.
