Ancient Sufetula, a Roman provincial city in the Tunisian highlands, is notable for its unusually complete forum precinct with three temples dedicated to the Capitoline Triad standing side by side behind a monumental triple arch. The scale of the site relative to the local population it once served reflects the prosperity of this grain-producing region during the Roman Imperial period. The pale limestone structures photograph well against the flat scrubland landscape. The site receives far fewer visitors than Carthage or Dougga, giving the ruins a quiet and unhurried character.
