A dramatic canyon cut by the Dades River through rosy limestone cliffs in the Anti-Atlas foothills east of Ouarzazate. The road through the gorge climbs in tight switchbacks past rose gardens, rock formations, and mud-brick villages perched on ledges above the river. The area is particularly known for its rose production, which peaks in late April with a regional festival. The canyon walls, layered in shades of pink, red, and ochre, photograph well in the lateral light of early morning.
