A vast sea of Saharan sand dunes rising up to 150 metres near the village of Merzouga in southeastern Morocco. The dunes shift from pale gold at midday to deep amber and violet at sunrise and sunset, making the pre-dawn climb to the crest ridgeline a classic photographic objective. Camel caravans threading the dune corridors remain the traditional way to reach overnight camps in the interior. The silence and star density at night are remarkable given the remoteness of the site.
