A high-alpine range along the northeastern corner of Turkey, the Kaçkar Mountains form the inland wall behind the Black Sea coast and rise to 3,932 meters at their highest summit. The range is characterized by glacier-carved cirques, dozens of alpine lakes, and highland meadows called yayla where herders bring their livestock in summer. The multi-day trekking routes across the range, connecting Black Sea and Çoruh valley settlements, traverse some of the most scenically varied mountain landscapes in the country.
