A UNESCO-listed landscape in central Anatolia where volcanic eruptions and erosion have produced a dense field of rock cones, table mountains, and cliff-face monasteries. The open-air museum at Göreme preserves a cluster of rock-cut churches decorated with frescoes dating from the ninth to eleventh centuries. Walking trails between the valleys of Devrent, Pasabag, and Rose Valley allow close inspection of both the geological formations and the troglodyte settlements carved into them.
