The Stob Pyramids are an array of earth pyramids formed in reddish-brown clay and sandstone on a hillside above the Rila valley village of Stob. Standing up to 6 metres tall and capped with harder stones that slow their erosion, the formations create an otherworldly cluster that contrasts sharply with the snow-capped Rila peaks visible to the south. The site is reached on foot via a short trail from the village and is most photographically striking in low-angle afternoon light.
