Štrbské Pleso is a glacial lake at 1,346 metres in the High Tatras, ringed by mixed conifer forest and framed by the broad pyramid of Kriváň to the south. The lake's calm surface at dawn reflects the surrounding peaks in near-perfect symmetry, making it one of the most photographed scenes in the Slovak mountains. A promenade around the shore passes historic turn-of-the-century resort hotels and the site of former Nordic ski-jumping competitions.
