Vaduz Castle is a twelfth-century fortification on a rocky spur above the Rhine plain, the residence of the ruling family of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The castle is not open to the public, but the trail ascending from the town passes close to the outer walls and provides a panoramic view across the Rhine Valley toward the Swiss Alps. The contrast between the medieval castle and the flat agricultural valley below makes it one of the most photographed subjects in Liechtenstein.
