Engelberg is a mountain resort at 1,050 metres in a glaciated valley south of Lucerne, dominated by the Benedictine monastery founded in 1120 that continues to function as a working community. The Titlis cable car above the village reaches 3,020 metres including a rotating gondola section, providing access to year-round glacier skiing. The surrounding valley is encircled by peaks including the Titlis, Hahnen, and Grassen.
