Pilatus is a massif of several peaks above Lucerne reaching 2,132 metres at Tomlishorn, accessible by the world's steepest cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad or by cable car from Kriens. The summit plateau provides direct views over Lake Lucerne and the surrounding pre-Alpine landscape as far as the Bernese and Urner Alps. A network of cliff paths and the Drachenwand scramble route traverse the upper ridgeline for experienced walkers.
