Jungfraujoch is a high col at 3,454 metres between the Jungfrau and Mönch peaks, reached by a cogwheel railway bored through the Eiger and Mönch. Known as the Top of Europe, the saddle provides views across the upper Aletsch Glacier and on clear days across the Swiss Mittelland as far as the Black Forest. A research station and the Sphinx Observatory have operated there since 1931.
