A high-alpine resort village at 1,447 metres in the Arlberg region on the border of Vorarlberg and Tyrol, Lech am Arlberg is linked with nearby Zürs and Stuben into one of the largest ski areas in Austria. The Arlberg region is credited with the development of modern alpine ski technique in the early 20th century through Hannes Schneider's Arlberg method. The village retains a compact character with traditional wooden-shingled and plastered buildings despite its status as a top-tier international ski destination.
