The Ötztal Alps are a high massif on the Austrian–Italian border comprising the largest contiguous glaciated area in the Eastern Alps. Wildspitze at 3,770 metres is the highest point in Tyrol and the second-highest in Austria. The discovery in 1991 of the Ötzi glacier mummy — a Copper Age man preserved in the ice for more than 5,000 years — in the Similaun area brought international attention to the range.
