Lastovo is a remote island in the southern Dalmatian archipelago, surrounded by the Lastovo Archipelago Nature Park which encompasses some of the cleanest and least-trafficked waters in the Adriatic. The main village, also called Lastovo, is unusual for its position on the island's interior plateau facing away from the sea, a defensive arrangement from the medieval period. The island is designated a dark-sky reserve, making it one of the best locations in Croatia for stargazing.
