Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus and its main commercial port, rebuilt substantially after repeated destruction and today defined by a revitalized seafront promenade and a restored medieval castle where Richard I of England is said to have married in 1191. The castle, repaired under the Crusader and Lusignan periods, now houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum. A wine village trail in the Troodos foothills northwest of the city offers access to traditional viticulture in villages surrounded by Commandaria wine-producing vineyards.
