One of North America's wildest rivers, the South Nahanni, gives this park its spine, cutting deep canyons through the mountains of the Northwest Territories and plunging over huge falls, with a rare limestone cave system hidden in the rock. Wolves, grizzlies and caribou roam the boreal forest below slopes grazed by Dall's sheep and mountain goats. Nahanni was among the very first places inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, in 1978.
