Melissani Cave is a partially collapsed sea cave on Kefalonia containing a brackish underground lake whose waters are connected to sinkholes on the opposite side of the island through an underground channel within the limestone karst. When sunlight enters through the open roof in the morning hours, it reflects off the water in shifting blues and greens, illuminating the cave's dripstone walls. Visitors traverse the lake by small rowing boat during guided tours.
