Balos is a lagoon and beach at the westernmost tip of Crete, formed where the Gramvousa Peninsula curves to create a shallow tidal basin of shallow turquoise and milky-white water. The pale sand and scattered pink shell fragments give the lagoon its distinctive pale coloration visible from the hillside track above. The site is reachable by a steep unpaved road followed by a footpath descent, or by ferry from Kissamos.
