Built on a small islet called Megaride connected to the Naples waterfront by a causeway, Castel dell'Ovo is the oldest standing castle in Naples, occupying a site inhabited since the ancient Greek colony of Parthenope. The battlements offer one of the best open views of the Bay of Naples, with the silhouettes of Vesuvius, Capri, and Ischia visible simultaneously from the castle's seaward terraces. The rocky perimeter and the adjacent Borgo Marinari fishing village are atmospheric in the low light of early morning.
